Jasper Johns: ‘Something Resembling Truth’
Supported by The Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation
See through the eyes of iconic artist Jasper Johns at this workshop tailor-made for students with special educational needs.
By encouraging us to look closely at everyday objects like numbers, signs, flags and maps, American artist Jasper Johns renders them new and unfamiliar. In this session, we will support students to explore Johns’s artworks and to find fresh meaning in the familiar, by experimenting with a range of materials and exploring the use of colour and repetition.
Our tailor-made multi-sensory workshops are led by experienced artist educators for students with special educational needs. They include gallery based conversation and object handling, followed by an art making session.
To make a booking enquiry please contact the learning team at studentgroups@royalacademy.org.uk, or over the phone on 020 7300 5995.
Before booking, please note that these sessions are more successful when we work with a distinct class group, rather than a group that combines pupils from different classes or age groups. Call 020 7300 5995 for more information.
• Sessions run from 10.30am–2pm.
• Workshops are tailored to the needs of every group.
• We use multi-sensory props to engage students with art.
• Whenever possible, our experienced artist-educators will visit your group before the workshop.
• Specially trained RA Access Volunteers support all workshops.
• The Learning Studio, available for the sole use of your group throughout the day, is a private area that can be used for lunch, feeding and changing.
• We reserve parking spaces for SEN Schools workshop days, but we will need details of your vehicle registration at least 2 weeks prior to your trip if you plan to make use of these.
• All areas of the main building of the Royal Academy are accessible.
• An accessible unisex toilet is on the ground floor.
We welcome SEN schools for workshops during our programme of Special Schools Weeks, which run four times a year.
