This year, the RA Lego Architecture Challenge is open to both architecture practices and the public alike. Architects, aspiring architects, and those up for some fun can join from home to construct a ‘caring city’.
Now in its eighth year, our annual Lego challenge takes place as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Inspired by the festival theme of “care”, we invite everyone to build their version of a caring city.
The brief
This year, you can once more take part from the comfort of your own home. Instead of hosting a competition between just architecture practices, we are inviting everyone to partake by photographing and sending us their creations digitally.
Think about how we can adjust our buildings and cities to create more enjoyable and accessible environments. Innovative parks as places of reunion, streets that encourage resting or celebrating, houses filled with light and air: we are looking for creative proposals on how our surroundings can care for us.
Your creations can be any size or scale – from whole cities to single room additions to a caring city. You can use your house, garden, or street as part of the scene or as a prop.
How to enter
Sign up for the challenge here and be the first to receive additional information on prizes and our esteemed jury. Then, share your creations on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #RALegoChallenge or tagging us on @architecture_RA, between 18 – 25 June.
For the architecture practices taking part, please submit through your practice social accounts so we can identify you.
Our jury will then select a shortlist of entries, which will be shared on the @architecture_RA Instagram account. The final winners will be decided by the public, so keep an eye out for the shortlisted entries between 26 – 30 June and make sure to vote for your favourite! The winner will be announced on 30 June.
The judges will be looking for:
★ Imaginative ideas
★ Use of location
★ Innovative approaches to construction
★ Fun
