Free for Patrons, booking required.
RA Patrons are invited on a private, out-of-hours tour of Horace Walpole’s summer residence, Strawberry Hill.
The Twilight Tour is an exclusive out of hours tour, kicked off with a glass of fizz where you can explore Strawberry Hill House at a magical time of day. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes and is led by one of the Strawberry Hill in-house art historians.
Strawberry Hill is one of Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic Architecture. It began life in 1698 as a modest lodging house and was transformed into a "little Gothic castle" by Horace Walpole, man of letters and son of England’s first Prime Minister, Robert Walpole. Between 1747 and 1792 Walpole created Gothic rooms, added towers and battlements, and landscaped his garden with innovative Gothic architectural features, all in fulfilment of his dream.
