Patrons: in the studio with Zak Ové
Thursday 12 March 2020 6 - 8pm
Location confirmed on RSVP
Free for Patrons, booking required.
Patrons are invited into the studio of British Caribbean, multi-disciplinary artist Zak Ové to learn about his unique practice.
You will explore how Ové’s work examines how African Diasposic mythologies can be culturally appropriated to be given new meaning in his North London home and studio.
Ové works in film, sculpture and photography to reclaim old world mythologies in new world source materials and technologies. Ové mines how African folklore is passed down through generations. Specifically he looks to the ritual of Carnival and how it was (and still is) a form of expression for a repressed culture that was separated, disembodied if you like, from its origin.
Ové recently curated the blockbuster exhibition Get Up, Stand Up Now at Somerset House, which celebrated the past 50 years of Black creativity in Britain and beyond and his work in held in collections world wide including Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
