Friends visit the beautiful Parham House, then enjoy a curator’s talk on the Sickert in Dieppe Exhibition at Pallant House Gallery.
Parham House is described Simon Jenkins as ‘a house of magic.’ This beautiful house contains rare collections of paintings, furniture, needlework and antiquities including a portrait of Charles 1 by Mytens, and a rare collection of Stuart needlework pictures. Our private tour includes the Great Hall with tall mullioned windows overlooking the South Downs and the spectacular Long Gallery, the third longest in England.
We also visit Pallant House gallery in Chichester to view the exhibition Sickert in Dieppe. Dieppe was Sickert's second home and his family ties with the French port were deep and happy Following a talk on the exhibition by the curator, Katy Norris, we have free time to explore why Sickert was in a unique position to bridge British and Continental style.
