Nick Rampley, Vice Principal of Morley College, leads our popular tour of the college’s exceptional art collection, which also includes a look at some fascinating artefacts from the College Library.
Established in the late 1800s by British social reformer Emma Cons, this adult education centre was originally founded as a coffee-house and music hall, and originally set up to offer morally decent entertainment at affordable prices. Hosting ‘penny lectures’ on the site that is now the Old Vic Theatre, Morley College moved to its present location in 1924 and was rebuilt in 1958 following extensive bomb damage.
A main feature of this new building is its artwork, including murals by John Piper and Edward Bawden RA, and works by Bridget Riley, Maggi Hambling, Ruskin Spear and many others.
This event is also taking place on 18 February 2016.
