Master the fundamentals of making mosaics during this weekend art making course.
Join us to discover the timeless art of mosaic. During this weekend course, artists Tessa Hunkin and Rada Stilianova will teach you the foundations of making mosaics. You will be guided in designing and constructing unique mosaics using ceramic and glass tiles.
The weekend will begin with a one-hour tour of the historical and contemporary mosaics at Westminster Cathedral, where you will find mosaics designed by Royal Academicians over the last century. The tour will be followed by a two-day practical workshop during which you will receive instruction in the skills fundamental to the medium and build your own mosaic.
Tessa Hunkin is an artist, architect and the founder of Hackney Mosaic Project; a community collective responsible for public artworks in and around Hackney. Prior to founding Hackney Mosaic Project, Tessa undertook major commissions with Mosaic Workshop, including at Westminster Cathedral. Tessa is the author of numerous books on mosaic design.
Rada Stilianova trained and worked as an actor in Sofia and Paris before discovering her passion for mosaic during a trip to Ravenna, Italy. After completing her degree at London School of Mosaic in 2019, Rada has worked on large scale commissions using traditional methods and began teaching on mosaic techniques. Rada joined The Hackney Mosaic Project in 2021.
