Daniel Maclise: The Waterloo Cartoon
Curator Annette Wickham explores the story behind this epic drawing by Daniel Maclise and considers why such a remarkable work has been hidden from public view for almost a century.
Join curator Annette Wickham to find out more about Daniel Maclise's The Meeting of Wellington and Blücher after the Battle of Waterloo. In this talk, she considers what motivated Maclise to produce this huge and incredibly detailed cartoon as a preparatory drawing for his wall-painting of the same subject, which resides in the House of Lords. She will also explore public response to this work, which was considered a masterpiece of its time.
