Revolution: Russian Art 1917–1932
One hundred years on from the Russian Revolution, we invite Friends to explore one of the most momentous periods in modern history with an evening of art historian-led exhibition tours, live Russian music and a taste of Russia’s famed cuisine.
The evening will include exhibition tours of Revolution: Russian Art 1917–1932, giving insight into both the works and the history that influenced the artists. Balalaika, a five-piece group specialising in Russian music including gypsy dances, gopaks, klezmer foot-tappers and waltzes, will keep Friends entertained throughout the evening. In the Grand Café a selection of Russian wines and beers and traditional Russian dishes will be available to purchase.
Art historians Graham Greenfield and Grace Adams will lead tours of the exhibition throughout the evening:
7.15pm exhibition tour led by Graham Greenfield
7.45pm exhibition tour led by Grace Adams
8.30pm exhibition tour led by Graham Greenfield
9.00pm exhibition tour led by Grace Adams
The Sackler Galleries show, America after the Fall: Painting in the 1930s, will also stay open, giving Friends a chance to explore both exhibitions away from the crowds. For a taste of what to expect, have a look at the latest Friends private view images.
Please be aware that this event will be filmed and photographed for use by the Royal Academy in digital and printed marketing. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please contact friends.events@royalacademy.org.uk.
