Gorhambury was built in the 18th century by Robert Taylor, replacing old Gorhambury House, home to philosopher and writer Francis Bacon.
We are privileged to have the present owner, Viscountess Grimston, welcome us with an introduction to the house and its history followed by a tour of the extensive collection of paintings and books, including the Van Somer portraits of Francis Bacon.
In the afternoon, by popular request, we return to Moggerhanger Park, a most unusual Grade 1 listed Georgian building designed by Sir John Soane in 1792 and widely recognized as the most complete surviving example of Soane’s work.
£88, including coach, coffee, lunch, glass of wine, tea.
