This Friends Week, our Art at Breakfast business series invites you to gain insight into the intersection between art and industry while enjoying a fresh buffet breakfast. Hear about the logistics of investing in art with Dr. Tim Hunter, Vice President of Art Financing at Falcon Fine Art and Dr. Anna Dempster, Head of Academic Programmes at the RA.
Have you ever wondered about the benefits and risks of investing in the global art market? Join these carefully chosen experts in their field as they consider what investors – potential and current – should expect from the market, the highs and lows of investing in art, current trends and typical risks.
As part of our Art at Breakfast series revealing the relationships between art and business in different sectors, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Tim Hunter, Vice President of Art Financing at Falcon Fine Art and Dr. Anna Dempster, Head of Academic Programmes at the RA, to guide Friends in the fascinating world of investing in art.
Dr. Tim Hunter brings his extensive knowledge of the art world to Falcon Fine Art – helping art collectors to maximize and enhance their portfolios. Prior to joining Falcon Fine Art, he worked at Christie’s International Auction House for 16 years, holding positions as Senior Director of Old Master and British Pictures, Head of 19th Century European Art, and Director of Impressionist and Modern Art. He subsequently worked for 5 years as a Director at Gurr Johns Ltd, one of the UK’s leading art advisory firms.
He regularly sits on the Reviewing Committee for the Export of Works of Art, and acts as an adviser to several national museums as well as the Arts Council. In 2014, Hunter was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
Dr. Anna Dempster is Head of Academic Programmes at the Royal Academy of Arts; she is responsible for commercial courses and classes, institutional academic partnerships and academic education outside of the RA Schools. She also currently holds a College Research Associate post at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge where she sits on the Arts Committee.
She has research and teaching experience in leading academic institutions including the University of Cambridge, London Business School and Rotterdam School of Management and she regularly consults for practitioners and policy-makers. Her current research interests focus on the creative industries and visual arts and specifically Risk and Uncertainty in the Art World, with a book of this title published in 2014.
