Friends of the RA book first
The RA is currently undergoing one of the biggest physical changes in its 248 year history. Take a behind the scenes hard hat tour of the development, and then join Nick Hill of David Chipperfield Architects and Charles Saumarez Smith, Chief Executive of the RA as they discuss the highlights of the development so far.
The 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy – RA250 – is to be celebrated with a grand re-launch of our site, with the addition of new exhibition spaces, a lecture theatre, function rooms and more. By joining the two buildings at Burlington House and Burlington Gardens, we hope to cement our reputation as a destination for art lovers.
Our Grade II*- listed buildings are of great architectural and historical interest, and the RA250 masterplan by David Chipperfield Architects will unite them. On this hard hat tour of the works as they are now, learn how the new construction is honouring our extant buildings. This will be a fascinating chance to understand the building developments that will shape the RA’s future.
Please be aware that the walking tour part of this event will last up to two hours and involves standing with minimal access to seating. It should also be noted that due to the historic nature of the buildings not all areas of the tour will be accessible for wheelchair users. If you are interested in attending and have access or mobility requirements please contact the Ticketing Team on 020 7300 8090 for further advice and information.
Ticket price includes a hard hat tour from 2 – 3pm, followed by light refreshments and a talk on the highlights of the redevelopment so far with Nick Hill, David Chipperfield Architects and Charles Saumarez Smith, Royal Academy Chief Executive from 4.30 – 6pm. Booking is essential for this event; if you wish to bring a guest please book one ticket for each person.
