A hard-hat tour of the RA250 site

The Royal Academy of Arts is currently undergoing one of the biggest physical changes in its 249-year history. We’ll take you on a full site tour and show you how the building work is unfolding ahead of time – the public won’t see the results until 2018.

Be one of the first to see behind the scenes of the redeveloped Royal Academy, before the public unveiling in 2018.

Enjoy the unique experience of a guided hard-hat tour of the extended site, now in the final stages of construction, with the added bonus of stunning views across central London from the Royal Academy rooftop. Friends on this tour will also receive donor accreditation online, for support of the RA250 capital appeal.

The 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy – RA250 – is to be celebrated with a grand re-launch of our site, with the addition of new exhibition spaces, a lecture theatre, better visitor facilities and more. By joining the two buildings at Burlington House and Burlington Gardens to provide even more opportunities for making, exhibiting and debating art, we hope to cement our reputation as a destination for art lovers.

Our Grade II* listed buildings are of great architectural and historical interest, and the RA250 Masterplan by David Chipperfield Architects will unite them. On this hard-hat tour of the building works as they are now, learn how the new construction is honouring our extant buildings. This will be a fascinating chance to understand the building developments that will shape the RA’s future.

Friends on this tour will also enjoy a glass of Champagne and afternoon tea-style light bites.

Please be aware that this walking tour will last up to two hours and involves standing with minimal access to seating. It should also be noted that due to the historic nature of the buildings, not all areas of the tour will be accessible for wheelchair users. If you are interested in attending and have access or mobility requirements please contact the Ticketing Team on 020 7300 8090 for further advice and information.

Ticket price includes refreshments. Booking is essential for this event; if you wish to bring a guest please book one ticket for each person.

The Royal Academy is an independent charity that relies on the generosity of its Friends. Thank you for supporting the RA by participating in Friends Events.
