In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March, we've planned a guided tour with National Gallery lecturer and art historian, Siân Walters. The tour traces the fascinating role of women as patrons and painters, from the medieval period to the 19th century, as illustrated through the National Gallery’s collection.
The tour includes discussion of a number of notable and influential women during the 15th and 16th centuries who commissioned works of art that would normally have fallen within the scope of male patronage. Join us to admire masterpieces by female artists including Judith Leyster, Rachel Ruysch, Berthe Morisot and Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun.
Join fellow Friends on this fascinating tour examining the intriguing role of women in art from the medieval period to the 19th century, as illustrated through the National Gallery’s collection.
This event also takes place on 20 March.
