Friends excursions: the art of art handling at the National Gallery
Join fellow Friends for this very rare opportunity to meet the National Gallery’s Head of Art Handling, Patrick O’Sullivan, and his team.
We join Patrick and his team looking at a selection of paintings at the National Gallery as they discuss and demonstrate the complex issues involved in the art of art handling such as hanging, framing, transportation, moving works for temporary exhibitions and lending paintings abroad. Our visit reveals a rare behind-the-scenes insight into this very specialised work that art handling experts do to care for, protect and present artworks in permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.
