Friends excursions: Southbank Centre – behind the scenes
This guided tour for Friends looks behind the scenes of this world-famous arts centre.
From its construction in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain, the Southbank Centre has consistently broken ground as one of Britain’s foremost cultural institutions.
On this tour, Friends have the opportunity examine its innovative architectural style and learn about the inner workings of the Royal Festival and Queen Elizabeth Halls. Friends will also learn about the refurbishment of the Hayward Gallery, which will re-open in 2018. Friends will go backstage to areas normally restricted to the public, such as artists’ dressing rooms, and may even get the chance to step out on the Royal Festival Hall stage.
