Booking and attending Friends excursions and events
Join Friends of the RA for an all day visit to Newmarket’s brand new National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art, which includes a talk by the centre's director.
This new National Heritage Centre opens in October 2016 and will bring together three distinct elements: an art gallery, a museum and a live horse experience. After the talk by the Centre’s director Chris Garibaldi, Friends will have an opportunity to explore the centre’s three sites.
In the newly opened centre there will be paintings from The British Sporting Art collection on display, as well as works lent by private and public collections from across the UK to create a celebratory hang of sporting art. Early images of traditional rural pursuits will rub shoulders in the Palace House Galleries with later team sports such as cricket, rugby and football. The rich heritage of sporting art will be represented by works from some of the most renowned British artists including Stubbs, Wootton, Hayman, Orpen, Munnings and contemporary artists such as Wallinger.
