Join us on our behind-the-scenes tour of the London Transport Museum’s selection of delightful and nostalgic posters, which reveal a fascinating journey through a century of art and design.
The London Transport Museum’s Depot in west London is home to one of the world’s finest and most comprehensive collections of transport posters and artworks with more than 7,000 posters in its collection.
The modern graphic poster came into use in the 1890s, revolutionising advertising and propaganda. In 1908, Frank Pick became the Publicity Officer for the London Underground, then known as the Underground Electric Railways Company of London. Through his prioritisation of poster designs, Pick completely changed the corporate identity of the Underground and went on to commission works by some of the world’s best-known artists including Man Ray, Abram Games and Edward McKnight Kauffer. This really is a hidden treasure-trove not to be missed.
This event is also taking place on 28 March 2017.
