LCC architects looking at plans for the Royal Festival Hall in 1949

© City of London, London Metropolitan Archives

The London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) hold a vast and diverse collection of archives, records, images, films, maps and over 10,000 books, covering all aspects of the prolific history of our amazing capital.

This specially arranged visit will give Friends of the RA an insight into the background and spread of the Metropolitan Archives. A behind-the-scenes visit to their conservation department and digitisation team will explain how the archive has been collected and how it is being preserved for future generations. We will finish by viewing of some of the highlights from this fascinating collection, including a 1949 photograph (pictured) of architects looking at the proposed plans for the Royal Festival Hall on London’s Southbank.
