Join Friends of the RA for a private tour of this stunning grade II-listed chapel, in the heart of London’s historic Fitrovia.
The Fitzrovia Chapel was designed by noted Gothic revivalist, John Loughborough Pearson. Completed in 1929, it was intended to benefit the patients, staff and visitors of the Middlesex Hospital. In 2005, the hospital was vacated and the chapel closed. For ten years it stood shuttered and neglected while everything around it was demolished, until a £3 million restoration project allowed it to reopen its doors in September 2015.
On this tour, the project’s lead conservationist explains how this hidden gem was restored to its former glory. We also hear about the history of the chapel within the old Middlesex Hospital, which was demolished to allow for the area to be redeveloped with modern office blocks and restaurants.
