We are extremely privileged to offer a private guided tour of the two Chapels Royal – the private Chapels of the Queen and the Royal Family, neither of which are open to the public outside of services.
The Tudor Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace was constructed by Henry VIII in 1531, with the ceiling decorated by Hans Holbein. It was here that Elizabeth I sought spiritual sanctuary during the threat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.
The Queen's Chapel was begun by King James I in 1623, and completed for Queen Henrietta Maria, bride of Charles I. Designed by Inigo Jones, the Chapel was used by the Queen until the outbreak of the Civil War, and afterwards by Queen Katharine of Braganza and Mary of Modena until 1688. Grinling Gibbons and Christopher Wren made later additions to the interior.
This event is also taking place on 12 July 2016.
