Discover the treasures of the National Portrait Gallery’s Archive and Library, in our exclusive tour led by Senior Archive and Library Manager, Bryony Millan.
Founded in 1856, the National Portrait Gallery holds the most extensive collection of portraits in the world. The Gallery’s Archive and Library seeks to be the foremost centre for the study of and research into portraiture.
Explore the history of the National Portrait Gallery, as we view records from the Victorian era and the tenure of Sir George Scharf, the first director of the NPG. Our journey continues to the 20th century as we learn about the Gallery’s experiences in the First World War, encounters with suffragettes, the Bloomsbury set, the Second World War and the swinging sixties.
This event will also be held on 21 May
