Riedel introduces the art of glass tasting, in a fascinating Champagne masterclass. Since 1756, Riedel is one of the 100 oldest family businesses in the world, and is famous for making the most exquisite grape varietal specific wine glasses. Discover how the shape of a glass can change the taste of wine, and keep your glass set worth £110 to continue your journey at home.
Matt Knight has over 11 years of experience in hosting Riedel tastings, and invites Friends of the RA to join a fun and informative masterclass, with a taste comparison of Laurent Perrier and Moet Champagne across specially crafted glasses. Riedel makes a different wine glass for nearly every wine grape there is. Enjoy white and rose champagne, in glasses which will highlight the delicate aromas and unique tasting notes of each vintage.
Claus J. Riedel – Maximilian’s grandfather – was the first designer to recognize that the bouquet and taste of wines are affected by the shape of the glass from which they are consumed. Working with experienced wine-growers and sommeliers, Claus Riedel laid the groundwork for functional as well as beautiful glasses by creating stemware that would match different wines and was made according to the Bauhaus design credo: form follows function. This concept was elaborated by the introduction of the Sommeliers series in 1973, which gained worldwide recognition. Look at why shape matters when it comes to choosing your glasses, and how the different shapes can enhance the bouquet and flavours of a particular champagne. Riedel has been producing glass in Austria for over 260 years, and their glasses are used by tasters at the Decanter World Wine Awards; this is a must-attend event for Champagne-lovers.
Tickets include tasting class and a set of two Riedel Veritas Pinot Noir glasses and two Veritas Champagne glasses. Booking is essential for this event, if you wish to bring a guest please book one ticket for each person.
