Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans
Supported by
To coincide with our ‘Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans’ exhibition, Peyton & Byrne has designed a five-course menu of gastronomic delights from Flanders, celebrating Ensor’s Flemish roots.
The Keeper’s House Restaurant, decorated in historic architectural casts originally used in the RA Schools, is tucked away on the lower ground floor of the Keeper’s House – the perfect setting for a culinary evening designed by restaurateurs Peyton & Byrne. Join us for a specially designed five-course menu, inspired by the birthplace of artist James Ensor. Nic Van der Marliere, General Representative for the Embassy of Belgium, will provide an introduction to Flemish and Belgian cuisine and each dish will be expertly paired with a wine chosen by our expert sommelier, Alison Taffs.
Alison has been involved in wine education and selection in restaurants and bars for nearly 20 years. Training originally with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (the industry education body), she has since trained and worked with three Masters of Wine. She has blended wines in France and Italy and created wine and drinks lists for a group of over 300 restaurants.
Booking is essential for this event; if you wish to bring a guest please book one ticket for each person. The Royal Academy is an independent charity that relies on the generosity of its Friends. Thank you for supporting the RA by participating in Friends Events.

Flemish culture events
The Government of Flanders has collaborated with the Royal Academy to create a bespoke series of events exclusively for Friends of the RA celebrating Flemish culture. Embodying the birthplace of James Ensor, the series draws inspiration from the fascinating exhibition Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans.
