Join us for a film screening of ‘Klimt’ (2006), the enigmatic biopic of Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt, performed by John Malkovich.
To coincide with the Klimt / Schiele: Drawings from the Albertina Museum, Vienna exhibition, we have joined forces with MUBI for a special screening of Klimt (2006).
The film transports us back to 1918 Vienna and tells the life story of painter Gustav Klimt whose lavish, sexual paintings came to symbolise the art nouveau style of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The film follows his relationship with Egon Schiele, fashion designer Emilie Louise Flöge and dancer Lea de Castro, looking back over his life from his deathbed at age 55. The role of Gustav Klimt is performed by John Malkovich, and the film was directed by Chilean exile, baroque master Raùl Ruiz.
