Nicholas Hytner discusses his career in film and theatre, including twelve years as Artistic Director at the National Theatre, with writer and broadcaster Sarah Crompton.

Due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding coronavirus, we regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s RA Festival of Ideas. If you have purchased tickets to an event, please contact us on 0207 300 8090 or tickets@royalacademy.org.uk to arrange a refund.

Nicholas Hytner tells Sarah Crompton about the creative process behind his successful theatre productions - including works by Shakespeare, Alan Bennett, and many other contemporary playwrights - and talks about plans for his new theatre, opening in Kings Cross in 2021.

As well as his innovative programming, Hytner is credited with increasing access to the National Theatre with affordable ticket pricing and the introduction of live cinema screenings across the country through National Theatre Live. On leaving the National Theatre, together with Executive Director Nick Starr he opened The Bridge Theatre in 2017.

This talk will include an audience Q&A at the end.

Nicholas Hytner will be signing books in the Burlington Gardens entrance hall after the event.
