In Focus – ‘Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans’
Friends private view
Saturday 26 November 2016 7 - 10pm
Main galleries and Sackler galleries, Burlington House
£25. Includes welcome drink.
Taking inspiration from the theatrical, satirical and macabre art of James Ensor, we invite Friends to join us for an evening of art historian-led exhibition tours, live Flemish-inspired music and a taste of Belgium’s famed cuisine.
The evening will include spotlight tours of Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans and a private view of Abstract Expressionism. A string quartet from the Royal College of Music will perform a specially tailored programme of Belgian and Flemish-inspired music, including pieces by César Franck. A selection of Belgian beers and wine will be available to purchase in the RA Grand Café, alongside Belgian cheese and charcuterie platters.
This event provides a unique opportunity for Friends of the RA to gain further insight into Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans by taking one of the art historian-led tours scheduled for the evening:
7.15pm exhibition tour led by Graham Greenfield
7.45pm exhibition tour led by Linda Bolton
8.15pm exhibition tour led by Graham Greenfield
8.45pm exhibition tour led by Linda Bolton
Our current main galleries show, Abstract Expressionism, will also stay open, giving Friends of the RA a chance to explore both exhibitions without the crowds. For a taste of what to expect, have a look at the latest Friends Private View images.
Please be aware that this event will be filmed and photographed for use by the Royal Academy in digital and printed marketing. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please contact friends.events@royalacademy.org.uk

Flemish culture events
The Government of Flanders has collaborated with the Royal Academy to create a bespoke series of events exclusively for Friends of the RA celebrating Flemish culture. Embodying the birthplace of James Ensor, the series draws inspiration from the fascinating exhibition Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans.
