International Women’s Day 2019: feminist time
Saturday 9 March 2019 2 - 3.30pm
The Clore Learning Centre, Burlington Gardens, Royal Academy of Arts
Free, no booking required.
Join us at the RA on the second Saturday of every month for an artist-led taster workshop, focusing on a specific artistic technique each session.
In this workshop we will explore the work of female artists in celebration of International Women’s Day. Taking inspiration from patterns and colours found within paintings and drawings in the RA Collection, you will have the chance to make your own textured tile using coloured clays.
In these monthly workshops, our artist will demonstrate an artistic technique relating to an object in the RA Collection or to a specific historical architectural feature of the building. This will be followed by a short creative session, supported by volunteers, in which you can create your own work inspired by the technique.
To sign up, look out for our volunteers in the Wohl Entrance Hall, Burlington Gardens from 1pm. These sessions are free but spaces are limited.
International Women's Day 2019: feminist time
What is feminist time? How have scholars, activists and artists interrogated the concept of time to overturn hegemonic narratives of art history? What can challenging and reimagining history do for future artists? How can we collect and curate women’s art?
Through 10 days of discussion, musical performance, talks, workshops and tours, we will explore these essential questions and look to an art world that includes feminist time.
