In this talk, Ferrari explores the story behind the Impressionist collection at Ordrupgaard in Denmark and the RA’s exhibition Gauguin and the Impressionists. Ferrari introduces the lives of businessman and art-lover Wilhelm Hansen and his wife Henny who together acquired this astonishing collection of French art during the 1910s and 1920s.
Hear about the couple’s motivations for collecting as Ferrari situates them in a wider network of Danish, European, American, and Russian collectors of French art.
This 50-minute talk will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Anna Ferrari is an art historian and curator at the RA. Prior to joining the RA she worked at the V&A and the Barbican Art Gallery.
