Antony Gormley
Guest co-curator Martin Caiger-Smith introduces Antony Gormley’s first major show in a public gallery in the UK for over a decade.
Antony Gormley describes the exhibition as a "test site", where he can explore the space we inhabit, within and outside of our bodies.
In this 50 minute talk in the Benjamin West Lecture Theatre, guest co-curator Martin Caiger-Smith explores Gormley's radical use of materials. He'll also explain Gormley’s rethinking of the place of the body in sculpture, and the artist’s direct appeal to the public, in the making, display and experience of his art.
Martin Caiger-Smith is Head of the Curating the Art Museum MA programme at the Courtauld Institute. He has worked on the RA exhibition with Antony Gormley for several years and has written extensively on his work.
