Highlights from the RA Collection
A creative workshop inspired by artworks in the Collections Gallery.
Does great art begin with studying nature, or studying the great art of the past? What constitutes great art? Curated by the Royal Academy’s President Christopher Le Brun, this gallery presents artworks that tell the stories of people who founded the RA in 1768, their ideas about art and how those ideas changed over the following 50 years.
In this session, two artist educators will support participants to view and respond to a variety of artworks in the RA Collection. They will explore their own opinions about what makes a good piece of artwork and what should be the most important inspiration for art. Afterwards, participants will be guided to create their own artworks in response to the works they’ve seen and discussed.
These workshops are designed for groups working with disabled adults or adults at risk of exclusion from arts and culture. We advise groups be fewer than 15 people so we can ensure everyone attending is properly supported to engage with the workshop.
