Collaborative curatorial practice
The Successful Artist? roundtable
Saturday 23 June 2018 2 - 3.30pm
The Wolfson British Academy Room, Burlington Gardens, Royal Academy of Arts
Free, booking required.
Join curator Cory Scozzari, founder of curatorial project Cordova and co-founder of curatorial studio Jupiter Woods, for a roundtable discussion on how collaborative curatorial models can support the success of artists and their work.
Concepts of curation have greatly expanded since its professionalisation in the post-war period. Its practice however has often employed top-down models and followed largely didactic and hyper-professionalised approaches. This roundtable will explore alternative collaborative curatorial practices and how they can affect success and visibility for contemporary artists today. It will also challenge the notion of "success" itself and attempt to interrogate the current validation structures used to measure curatorial and artistic success.
In 2016, Cory Scozzari founded his curatorial project Cordova in Vienna. The project currently resides in Barcelona and consists of an exhibition space as well as a residency programme, where international artists are invited to stay and produce exhibitions and events in situ. The curatorial project was born out of a desire to work closely with artists and, because of its limited resources, has focused mainly on site-specific artistic production.
Join the conversation as we explore how the relationship between curators and artists is changing and what the potential of collaborative curatorial practice is in creating successful art production and exhibition.
This event invites audiences to participate in a round-table discussion in the British Academy Room. We encourage ticket holders to bring thoughts and perspectives to share with others and generate an informed debate with invited speakers.
Admission is on a first-come-first-served basis for those with tickets. We would recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the start time to avoid disappointment.
The Successful Artist? programme is proudly supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, as part of the new RA Collections programme.
