Friends explore Chelsea Physic Garden, a celebration of the beauty and importance of plants, tucked away beside the Thames in Chelsea. By special arrangement Friends also enjoy a talk by the Head Librarian, and viewing of rare items in the library’s collection.
This walled Garden was founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, so that its apprentices could study the medicinal qualities of plants. It became one of the most important centres of botany and plant exchange in the world. After the talk in the library, Friends explore the garden on a guided tour which focuses on the application of plants in both ancient and modern medicine.
This event is also taking place on 28 April 2016.
