Theresa Lola is a British-Nigerian poet, workshop facilitator and accountant. She is the 2017 Hammer and Tongue National Slam Champion, was shortlisted for the 2017 Bridport Poetry Prize, placed third for the 2016 Magic Oxygen Poetry Prize, and was shortlisted for the 2016 London Magazine Poetry Prize. Her poem Portrait of Us As Snow White was highly commended for the 2016 Charles Causley Prize. Sumia Jaama was a semi-finalist in the Roundhouse Poetry Slam 2017. She uses poetry as a mirror to reflect her subconscious and uncover some of the conversations we may not have otherwise. She’s interested in how poetry can be used to not only capture moments but in documenting a lived experience, one that reflects an honest and authentic individual cultural identity. As a result, she uses poetry to figure out who she is as an individual, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a lover.
The Academicians’ Room
The Academicians’ Room is a place to feel at home; a place to come together in a club setting designed exclusively for members. The club room in the Keeper’s House began life in 1883 as an architectural gallery, before becoming the favourite haunt of the Academy’s artists as a private members club. The room has now entered a new phase in its rich history, with vintage furnishings creating the intimate, bohemian ambience of an artist’s drawing room. It’s a vibrant and relaxed haven in the heart of Mayfair: join as a member and enjoy the company of this special artistic community.
