Oceania
An event for blind and partially sighted visitors. Join us for an audio described tour of the exhibition, followed by refreshments and a handling session.
Marking 250 years since Cook’s first voyage to the Pacific, Oceania will bring together around 200 works to celebrate the diverse creativity of the region of Oceania. From shell, greenstone and ceramic ornaments, to huge canoes and dazzling house façades this exhibition explores important themes of voyaging, place making and encounter.
Beginning with an audio described tour, participants will be introduced to a rich body of works spanning items from 18th century ethnographic collections to pieces by contemporary artists.
Following the tour, a handling session will focus on experiencing specific materials and learning about some of the artistic techniques behind the creation of several key works in the exhibition.
This event includes refreshments and volunteer support is provided.
