Arts, Society and Medicine: Conrad Shawcross RA
Wednesday 25 January 2017 6.30 - 7.30pm
Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole St, W1
Free, pre-booking essential.
Join us as Royal Academician Conrad Shawcross discusses his fascination with science and how his practice has been inspired by the world’s continuous, often unsuccessful, pursuit of knowledge.
For the 2017 Annual Arts, Society and Medicine lecture, we welcome Conrad Shawcross RA in conversation with the RA’s Artistic Director, Tim Marlow. From works such as The Nervous System to his recent commission for the Francis Crick Centre, Paradigm, Conrad Shawcross imbues his sculptures with an appearance of scientific rationality, exploring subjects that lie on the borders of geometry and philosophy, topology, physics and metaphysics.
In this discussion, Shawcross examines his fascination with science and pays tribute to some of the great scientific analysts and pioneers of the past, considering specific figures and moments that have influenced his practice.
