Lucian Freud: The Self-portraits
Renowned artist Tracey Emin joins long-standing assistant to Lucian Freud, David Dawson, for a conversation examining Emin and Freud’s shared ability to innovate, provoke and soul-search.
In this hour-long conversation, hear first-hand from co-curator of Lucian Freud: The Self-portraits, David Dawson, and Royal Academician Tracey Emin CBE RA about Freud and Emin’s shared approach to depicting the self.
Emin’s work is derived from her experience, using life events in work ranging from painting, drawing, video and installation, to photography, needlework and sculpture. Like Emin’s art, Freud’s self- portraits give a fascinating insight into both his psyche and his development as an artist.
In this event we uncover how Freud and Emin’s intimate and candid disclosure opens up a conversation on some of the human attributes that shape us individually; failure, success, tragedy and liberation, and discuss the role art plays in revealing the stories of ourselves and others.
