Sophie Callis has graced decks worldwide with her signature fusion of jazz, funk, soul, boogie, disco, electro, house, hip hop and world music.
Sophie Callis dropped out of school and dived into the music industry at the tender age of 17. Her roots are firmly within West London's music scene and she has over 20 years of experience under her belt consulting for independent and major record labels, underground radio stations and record shops. Callis simultaneously built up her record collection and went from playing industry parties to some of the most reputable venues and festivals worldwide.
With a weekly radio show on Soho Radio London and a monthly show on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Fm, Callis continues to share her musical discoveries both old and new from across the board.
This event is open to members of the Academicians’ Room, Friends of the Royal Academy and the general public. RSVP required.

Art of sound
A brand new series of Friday night DJ sessions taking place in the Academicians’ Room this autumn.
We’ve asked some of our favourite London-based DJs to dive into their archives for a series of unique club nights in the heart of the Royal Academy. Throughout autumn, DJs from a wide range of musical backgrounds will take over the Academicians’ Room, sharing their personal favourites as well as the hidden gems they’ve discovered on their musical journeys.
The Academicians’ Room
An exclusive private members club for artists and art lovers.
The Academicians’ Room is a place to feel at home; a place to come together in a club setting designed exclusively for members. The club room in the Keeper’s House began life in 1883 as an architectural gallery, before becoming the favourite haunt of the Academy’s artists as a private members club. The room has now entered a new phase in its rich history, with a fresh look by the renowned Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. Vintage furnishings now create the intimate, bohemian ambience of an artist’s drawing room. It’s a vibrant and relaxed haven in the heart of Mayfair, join as a member and enjoy the company of this special artistic community.
