Art of Sound: Alex Rita
Curated by the Academicians’ Room
Friday 11 May 2018 8 - 11pm
The Academicians’ Room, The Keeper’s House, Royal Academy of Arts
Free, booking required.
The talented and creative DJ, singer and designer Alex Rita hosts the latest edition of Art of Sound in the Academicans' Room.
When not making her own clothes or drawing, Alex Rita spends her time immersed in another passion; patching together percussive grooves and organic sounds aimed at the soul and feet.
Alex regularly hosts a bi-weekly NTS Radio session and listeners can be blessed with anything from spiritual jazz, poetry, field recordings and soul, to broken beat, Caribbean vibes and warm house grooves. She also hosts an open discussion and live music series, Speaking In Sound, at Brilliant Corners.
Alex is also one half of soul-pop duo Okapii, who are releasing their debut album on Fresh Selects later this year. She is a crucial member and resident at Touching Bass, the grassroots South London-based soulful party movement.
This event is open to members of the Academicians’ Room, Patrons and Friends of the Royal Academy and booking is required. A limited number of tickets are available to the general public, so be quick to book if you don’t want to miss out!
Art of Sound series
Art of Sound is our series of Friday night DJ sessions taking place in the Academicians’ Room. We’ve asked some of our favourite London-based DJs to dive into their archives for a series of unique music nights in the heart of the Royal Academy. DJ’s from a wide range of musical backgrounds will take over the Academicians’ Room, sharing their personal favourites as well as the hidden gems they’ve discovered on their musical journeys.
These events are open to members of the Academicians’ Room, Patrons and Friends of the Royal Academy and the general public.
The Academicians’ Room
The Academicians’ Room is a place to feel at home; a place to come together in a club setting designed exclusively for members. The club room in the Keeper’s House began life in 1883 as an architectural gallery, before becoming the favourite haunt of the Academy’s artists as a private members club. The room has now entered a new phase in its rich history, with a fresh look by the renowned Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. Vintage furnishings now create the intimate, bohemian ambience of an artist’s drawing room. It’s a vibrant and relaxed haven in the heart of Mayfair, join as a member and enjoy the company of this special artistic community.
