Richard Diebenkorn
Curator Edith Devaney explores the RA's exhibition of Richard Diebenkorn, giving an overview of his career and considers why one of America’s most celebrated 20th century artists hasn’t been shown to a UK audience for more than 20 years.
Join RA curator, Edith Devaney to explore the life and work of Richard Diebenkorn, on show at the Royal Academy this spring. During this lecture Devaney considers his place in modern American art and also why one of America’s most celebrated 20th century artists has only been exhibited in a public gallery once in the UK (at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1991 shortly before his death). She will also outline the extent to which the exhibition at the RA draws attention to the transitions between his abstract and figurative artwork.
Free (seats must be reserved online or by telephone; unclaimed seats will be released at 1pm that day)
No admittance after 1pm.
