Watercolour test paper taken from travelling watercolour box owned by J.M.W. Turner, R.A.
RA Collection: Art
This test paper was originally part of Turner's travelling watercolour box, also in the RA Collection. This is probably the piece of paper described by W.T. Whitley ('Relics of Turner' in the Connoisseur 1931) as 'a little chart of the colours he used' in an article describing A. J. Finberg's recent acquisition of 'some interesting relics of Turner' which suggests it was in existence when Finberg acquired the watercolour box. However, it seems unlikely that the test paper was made by Turner himself and the writing is not his.
