Webster lived in Cranbrook in Kent from 1857. The photograph shows him seated in the doorway to his house. The artist F.D. Hardy joined Webster at Cranbrook and by the 1860s, the area had become an artists' colony which also included Augustus Mulready, Hardy's brother George, G.B. O'Neill and George Henry Boughton.
