Anthony Devas ARA (1911 - 1958)
RA Collection: Art
Anthony Devas was a popular portrait painter whose works included a 1957 portrait of Elizabeth II. He was well-known for his portraits of children, demand for which stemmed from his paintings of his own three children.
Devas was elected as an Associate in 1953 but never became a full Academician. This portrait was purchased shortly after his sudden death from a stroke in 1958.
