The Enraged Musician, 1741
William Hogarth (1697 - 1764)
RA Collection: Art
Engraving by William Hogarth showing a professional violinist driven to distraction by the cacophony of street life outside his window. The print was the second (after The Distressed Poet, 17/3489) of a projected trio of prints. The third, on the subject of painting, was never realised. The engraving reverses Hogarth's oil sketch of c.1740 (Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford).
