Charles Gere RA, The Blue Lake at Sierre

The Blue Lake at Sierre, 1938

Charles Gere RA (1869 - 1957)

RA Collection: Art

Charles Gere trained at the Birmingham School of Art under Edward R.Taylor. In 1904 he settled at Painswick near Stroud where he found his vocation as a landscape artist. Although Gere mainly painted tranquil Cotswolds scenes, he enjoyed working excursions to Italy and Switzerland. 'The Blue Lake at Sierre' was likely to have been painted from sketches made on a tour of Switzerland in 1938. Like many of Gere's late works it is painted in tempera on silk.
