The Vege-Men’s Revenge comprises of Florence K. Upton’s illustrations which are set to verse written by her mother, Bertha Upton. The book was published by Longmans Green and Co. (London, New York and Bombay) in 1897. Florence K. Upton was an American born English author and illustrator who wrote a series of bestselling children’s books in the late 19th century, she is most famous for her Golliwogg series of books.

The Vege-Men’s Revenge is written in a narrative poem with three parts. The story is about a girl named Poppy who is taken to Vege-Man’s land by Herr Carrot and Don Tomato. The King insists on placing her in a hole in the ground to learn how to grow.
