Giovanni Crupi, Teatro Greco, Taormina, Sicily

Teatro Greco, Taormina, Sicily, late nineteenth century

Giovanni Crupi (1859 - 1925)

RA Collection: Art

One of a number of views that Crupi produced of the Greek theatre at Taormina. Although a well known monument, little remained of the original Greek construction (300 BC). In the first century AD, the theatre was remodelled and extended by the Romans and much of the surviving architecture is actually Roman.
