Sir George Clausen RA, Study of hay ricks and barns

Study of hay ricks and barns

Sir George Clausen RA (1852 - 1944)

RA Collection: Art

This study of hay ricks and barns is left unfinished at the edges. Hay ricks were large, sometimes thatched outdoor piles of hay and they often appear in Clausen's work. A large hay rick such as the one seen in the centre of this drawing features in his 1912 oil painting, The Stars Coming Out (National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh).
