This is a preparatory drawing for Dicksee's painting The End of the Quest (1921; Leighton House Museum) which depicts a young man dressed as a pilgrim kneeling before a seated young woman whose hands he holds. This drawing was exhibited at the 1933 RA Winter exhibition and presented to the Academy soon afterwards by the artist's family.
