Sir George Clausen RA, Study of a boy with a sack relating to 'The Barn at Deers Farm'

Study of a boy with a sack relating to 'The Barn at Deers Farm', ca. 1911

Sir George Clausen RA (1852 - 1944)

RA Collection: Art

A study of a boy with a sack which is probably a preparatory sketch for one of the figures in the 1911 composition, The Barn at Deers Farm (exh. R.A., 1911, no. 59; private collection) though the boy is more hunched in pose and there is a basket to his left which does not feature in the final composition. Clausen began to exhibit barn interiors as a motif from 1897 until well into the 1930s.
